CIAG Applauds US Comments on SA, Claims Partition the Optimal Solution
The Cape Independence Advocacy Group (CIAG), a civil society organization based in South Africa's Western Cape, applauds the radically different approach being taken by the Trump administration towards South Africa.
Where previous administrations have looked the other way to a growing list of human-rights abuses under successive deeply corrupted ANC-led governments, Donald Trump, Elon Musk, and Ted Cruz have all confronted the realities of present-day South Africa.
In their crosshairs are South Africa's:
- Support for Russia and China and its antagonism towards the US and the West,
- Anti-minority racist policies where the ANC has now enacted more race-laws than the Apartheid government,
- Passing of a new Expropriation Law which allows for the possibility of expropriation of land and other property without paying any compensation,
- Undermining the Taiwanese people's right to self-determination by forcing Taiwan to move its embassy out of Pretoria to appease China,
- Tacitly endorsing Hamas whilst pursuing court action against Israel in the ICJ, which it has been widely speculated was funded by Iran.
What the US administration needs to recognize, however, is that these are not deeds committed by an undemocratic government. To their shame, the majority of South Africans eagerly endorse all of these actions.
When considering its strategic interests in Southern Africa, the US should note that South Africa is a country which is, and since its creation in 1910 has always been, a nation which is fundamentally divided between its Western population who are natural allies of the US, and its African Nationalist population which is aligned with Russia and China.
The Western population has a strong desire for independence. This finds expression in the Cape Independence movement, with Westerners being in the majority in South Africa’s Western Cape province and surrounding areas, and in the pursuit of Afrikaner (Boer) self-determination.
The CIAG notes the US's strategic interest in Greenland and the Panama Canal given the remarkable similarities with Cape Independence. The Western Cape controls the Cape Sea-route around the Cape of Good Hope, and this is the only alternative passage around Africa when the Suez Canal is blocked.
Independent polling shows that a strong majority of Western Cape voters favour a referendum being held on Cape Independence, suggesting that Cape Independence can be achieved democratically, peacefully, and legally. To date, this sentiment has been kept in check by the South African establishment keen to preserve the status quo.
The CIAG will now engage the Trump Administration to provide additional insight into the situation in South Africa and to explore areas of mutual interest.
